David decided to upskill and accelerate his Salesforce career because..

I was an end-user of Salesforce at a grant making Charity. We used Salesforce for part of our grant management and contact management. It was not love at first sight for me! I begrudgingly landed the job of accidental admin, but I very quickly spotted some features that would be beneficial in my job, so I became more enthusiastic and started to really appreciate those aspects.

I was travelling a huge amount in my job and decided that I needed to find a more flexible and family friendly role. I knew about Supermums because of a previous project we had worked on, and that is how I started on the programme.

David decided to upskill in Salesforce Admin Course with Supermums because..

The Supermums course really worked for me. It was a bit of a leap of faith: I knew that I needed to explore remote work options, but I went into it testing the waters a little bit and ended up really enjoyed the course, and the new skills I acquired, and just built on it from there.

I liked that the Supermums course was flexible. You could do it remotely and you could fit it in around family responsibilities. I also liked having a cohort of people who were all learning about Salesforce at the same time, swapping notes, doing study sessions together – I found that really helpful.

I found that the hands-on experience that came with the work experience really helped with doing the Admin certification. Some exam questions are a little tricky with a few plausible answers and having worked on a live project helped you work out the right answers.

David was able to launch his new Salesforce career successfully because….

The thing that really helped me land a job were my transferable skills. Salesforce applies to many different areas. I thought about what I enjoy doing, where I already had skills that I could build on. I had a background in management within charities, so working with charities and non-profits was definitely the area in which I was interested.

I reached out to the Supermums Recruitment Team and had started to get interviews through them, which was great, especially as they were very good about matching opportunities. I was interviewing for a couple of roles when the team contacted me and told me about a role at Economic Change. Having seen my CV, they asked if I would be interested in interviewing for the role, so it was a good, happy coincidence.

David has now successfully achieved a Salesforce career that offers him..

I am a Solutions Consultant at a Salesforce Consultant, which is my favourite title I have ever had in my career!

I work with charities and non-profits to understand what their needs are and then turn that into a working functioning system, so my role is a healthy mix of the technical skills, project management skills, and working with people. I am managing about five projects at present, and there are ex-Supermums working with me on some of them.

I am fortunate that I have an employer that really commits to flexible working. I work four day a week and I’m usually working from home for three of those. That is one of the really good things about Salesforce: because it is cloud based, it is accessible remotely which really helps with flexibility.

When I took the leap of faith, thinking about changing careers, I was travelling more days than I was at home; I was missing out on a lot of time with my family, and that feels like it has completely turned on its head now. I can be home for breakfasts and dinners, and that’s exactly what I wanted, so that’s been great.

One of the benefits of working for a consultancy is the opportunity to grow and pick up new skills. My consultancy is a good employer and invests time and resources into their people. I now have 4 Salesforce certifications: I’ve got Admin, non-profit cloud, community cloud, and my Advanced Admin as well. I’ve also done the agile project management qualification, which again is really good. That’s all been driven by the work that I’m doing.
