Maree decided to join the Supermums Salesforce Administrator Course because…

Maree was a Primary School Teacher for over 10 years but after but was looking for a change! She wanted a more flexible career and looked into Salesforce and upskilling with the support of Supermums in 2020.

“What would you rather? A teacher life with 6 weeks holiday where you will still work for the majority of that time in hope that you can get a head start for September. On average – I would spend 2-3 weeks cleaning, preparing and organising my classroom, much more if I had moved rooms or schools – OR – a flexible, and remote working role where you can take 2 weeks off where you are properly switched off, rested and present in that time with your family. Admittedly the other weeks are harder to juggle and expensive with holidays clubs, days out, childcare arrangements but somehow we make it work.”

Maree would recommend the Supermums Administrator & Consultant Skills Courses because…

“The Supermums Admin Course provided me with a 1-2-1 mentor to support my journey, and a work experience project which was invaluable. I also took their Salesforce Consultant Skills course which provided me with a different outlook and clarity. I am a big fan of finding things out for myself  but there are times when enrolling on a course provides you with a different dimension, and Supermums didn’t disappoint! This course gave me a more rounded view of my current role and all of the work that goes into providing the best outcomes for the client projects that I work on day to day. Some of my favourite learning weeks were Business Analysis, Requirements Engineering, Data Migration, Agile Project Management and Change Management.”

How did you find your first Salesforce role?

“I accidentally came across RevQore who took a chance on me shortly after i had completed the Admin course. This was my first step into RevOps (Revenue Ops) where I started at ground zero. I joined them in their infancy so I have learned from experts and been incredibly fortunate in that respect. The business founders have been an integral part of my career transition.”

What lessons from your Teaching career were you able to apply to your new role?

“Transferable skills from previous careers are a huge asset to anyone looking to go into any role within Salesforce, especially RevOps. Soft skills are also really important. Just remember that the other ‘stuff’ can be learned.”

“There are a number of different lessons I was able to pull from teaching and bring into my new career. For example, teaching requires you to be an excellent communicator: to be able to explain to a concept to an audience with all different levels of experience, understanding and learning style in their ‘language.’ The same is true in RevOps. I also had to be customer centric as a teacher – my ‘customers’ were my pupils, parents and governors – I had to keep their needs at the forefront at all times. Again, this carries over to RevOps. Lastly, I relied heavily on my adaptability a day in teaching changes quickly and you need to be able to move quickly and change your approach as ‘business needs’ change. Lastly, being involved in the strategic planning of school improvement requires business analysis skills, refining processes and roadmap which, of course, translates well to RevOps.

What’s the best piece of advice you can share with someone looking to move into RevOps?

“Don’t think you don’t know what RevOps is because you know more than you think! Use the power of LinkedIn to keep up to date with RevOps too.

“Transferable skills are a huge asset to anyone looking to go into any role in Salesforce!”
