A Day in the Life of a Supermum: Jen Smith

Our Supermums Graduate Jen joined Muriel Molloy on a Salesforce Masters Series Webinar, sharing her top tips on how to make your stakeholders dreams come true, along with some great general Salesforce advice!

Jen graduated our Supermums Programme in March 2017, and has since progressed her career in the Salesforce ecosystem. She is currently in the role of Sales Operations Executive at Bluebay Asset Management. Below she gives us her view on our course and career now, and the webinar is awesome to listen too as she is a true awesome admin now.

What did you do before the course?
I started my professional life as a CRM business analyst in investment banking, so CRM has long been a big part of my career. I took a 6 year career break after having children, during which a did a little part-time CRM consultancy with art galleries which I loved because they are such beautiful places to work.

Why did you choose to retrain in Salesforce?
I wanted to get back to work and financial services again and realised that times had changed quite a bit and that Salesforce was very widely used in the industry. A friend told me about the SuperMums course and the rest is history really!

What attracted you to the Salesforce Supermums course?
At the time my youngest was still at home and I loved that I could take the course webinars and calls with just a couple of half days of childcare, and complete the rest of the work in the evenings and at weekends. Including work experience and preparation for the ADM201 certification was also a big plus.

What difference did the work experience and mentoring make to your learning?
I definitely learn best by doing and there’s nothing like working on a live project to help you develop the skills and practice trouble shooting tricky requirements. The input from the Economic Change team during the work experience was really supportive and helpful too.

What are you doing now? What does a typical week of work look like?
I’ve been working for over 2 years now, currently full-time as Salesforce Administrator and Sales Operations Executive with an asset manager. I work from home on Fridays so that I can do the school run and be around the house a little more. I support 180 Salesforce users, dealing with questions and problems, developing new functionality, delivering training, and currently rolling out Pardot, so no two days are the same!

What guidance would you now give others who are considering a career in salesforce?
I’ve rebuilt my career with Salesforce and have some exciting opportunities ahead – it’s a genuine door-opener which for me is very refreshing because there can be a sense of doors closing after becoming a mum.

How has the course and progression changed your outlook or circumstances. Have you found flexible work?
I’m not really the poster-child for flexible working, turns out I really quite like going to work! There are definite lots of flexible options out there with Salesforce and employers are increasingly open to flexible working for all employees.

Would you recommend this programme to others if yes, why?
100% yes! I’m really proud to have been one of the first SuperMums and the programme was exactly what I needed to restart my career. If you like learning and problem solving with technology, then Salesforce is for you.

Whether you are new to Salesforce and wanting to learn more about being an admin, or if you’re experienced in Salesforce but looking to learn new things and share ideas – this webinar is a great listen!
