Day in the Life: Gemma – Marketing Cloud gave me the confidence to learn and achieve more

Gemma's role in the travel sector was, like many, gone almost over night when COVID hit in 2020. With a young family to support, she wanted to keep moving forwards and decided to upskill in Salesforce - this was just the beginning of her journey.

Gemma's Story

  • Course: Salesforce Admin Course
  • Region: EMEA
  • Sector: Charitable Organisations
  • Job Title: Business Analyst

  • Lives: Buckinghamshire
Gemma is a mum of 2 and lives in Buckinghamshire, UK. When COVID hit in 2020, her role, like many others in the travel sector, was made redundant. She wanted to keep moving forwards and decided to upskill in Salesforce…….this was just the beginning of her journey.

Gemma decided to upskill and launch her Salesforce career because..

I have worked in the Travel Management sector for over 20 years and in my last role I was an Account Manager.

When COVID hit in March 2020, my job and the career i had built up was made redundant over night. With a family to support, I knew that I had to keep moving forwards and that’s when I saw Supermums and their Salesforce Admin course.

I was on their September 2020 Admin course and got certified in early 2021. I wanted to continue to learn so I enrolled on their Marketing Cloud course straight away and got certified 5 months later.

Gemma decided to upskill in Marketing Cloud with Supermums because..

Like Supermums Admin course, the Salesforce Marketing Cloud course also came with a mentor and hands on experience using Marketing Cloud on a project. The other main attraction was the people. Everyone was a similar age, had similar circumstances, family commitments etc – this was comforting as you didn’t feel alone.

Also, have you looked at the top paid Salesforce jobs? Marketing Cloud professionals are like gold dust so I knew that I would get paid well and stand out with these skills.

Gemma was able to launch her Salesforce career successfully because….

Marketing Cloud gave the confidence to learn and achieve more. There is still so much more that I want to learn though and as I learn more, my interest keeps going. I’ve recently got Pardot certified which is great as we are implementing this at work. The good thing about adding this was that it compliments Marketing Cloud (MC is more B2C and Pardot more B2B) and it didn’t feel alien either as there was a short course on Pardot included when I was on the Supermums Marketing Cloud course.

Gemma has a successful & flexible career in Salesforce that offers her…

I’m really lucky as I work with 2 other Supermums – we’re a 3 woman band. We are all mums, we all work flexibly and we all get paid a decent salary. Having the flexibility to attend parents evenings, sports days etc means that I don’t miss out on the important things for my family, and I haven’t lost out financially by having this level of flexibility.

Gemma won ‘Supermums Trailblazer of the Year Award’ in August 2022. This was a Salesforce hosted event, held at the Salesforce Tower in London. Supermums were asked, along with other workplace development providers, to nominate trainees who had stood out, gone above and beyond or overcome adversity to achieve a successful career path using Salesforce. Gemma said “I still can’t believe that I won. I feel so thankful and grateful to have been chosen”

Gemma is a Business Analyst at Advice UK and is currently studying to gain her Business Analyst certification as part of our apprenticeship programme in partnership with Salesforce and Learning Curve.
