Day in the life: Nikola – From Florist to Salesforce Admin during Maternity Leave and a Global Pandemic
Course: Salesforce Admin Course
Job Title: Salesforce Administrator
Works: Trigg Digital
Nikola, an Australian who has been living in the UK for 5 years, had been working as a florist prior to taking the Salesforce Admin course in 2020. After having her first baby one week into the pandemic, she acknowledged her need to change to a more flexible career that would allow her to work from home in order to look after her baby, and that floristry and retail no longer suited her lifestyle. That is when she came across Salesforce, and the Supermums course, and after 3 days she was sold.
Nikola decided to upskill and launch her Salesforce career because…
‘I had been in the middle of a coding course when I came across Salesforce and Supermums. After realising that floristry was not longer what I wanted to do, I started a coding course during maternity leave as I’ve always been interested in tech. However I was finding that coding was very time consuming, and I just didn’t have the time to fully invest in the course. That is when I discovered Salesforce and Supermums through LinkedIn. I knew as soon as I saw the Supermums ad that this course would be perfect for me, and after 3 days I had signed up.’
Nikola was able to launch her new Salesforce career successfully because…
‘The camaraderie of the Supermums community is what allowed me to complete the Supermums course. The incredible group of women and men in my cohort, who were all at similar stages of their careers and lives, made me really want to come to the classes and do the homework. My mentor Amy was amazing; with her guidance, I really knew I was on the right track, both in terms of the course, and how the learning I was doing could be applied my future career in Salesforce.
You don’t have to have a background in tech to start a Salesforce career. I was able to bring certain elements I’d learn of my floristry career with me when I started working in Salesforce – namely my problem-solving skills. Every challenge you come across is just a problem to solve, and that is both the same in floristry and Salesforce. Learning how to communicate with anyone was also a key skill I brought with me when embarking on my new career.’
Nikola has now successfully achieved a Salesforce career that offers her…
‘I now work in a Salesforce Consultancy firm as part of a team of 4. We do lots of different things every day, which is why I really love the job. We work on multiple different projects, so I’m slowly becoming an allrounder in the Salesforce community. One day I might be working more in Service Cloud, and then other days I may be working more in Sales Cloud, and I really enjoy that. I like to have variety in my day-to-day, and a career in Salesforce really offers that.
That’s one of the best things about working in Salesforce. There are so many different career opportunities within the Salesforce space that you can choose from to suit your personality and skills. I am currently working as a Salesforce admin, but I’ve very interested in consultancy, so at some point I would love to explore that career path.’
