Simon des Forges, born in Jersey and now living in England, left his career as a mental health worker to embark on a career with Salesforce. Simon came across Salesforce when it was integrated into the small charity he was working for. He became really fascinated by what Salesforce could do, and was intrigued to learn more. The programme manager at Economic Change, the organisation employed to build Salesforce for his small charity, recommended the Supermums course, and he signed up.

Simon would recommend the Supermums programme because…

‘It can really give you the career change you are looking for. I had never really thought about a career change, and then all of a sudden I was 40 years old, and scared of the idea of sitting where I was and not moving forward in my career. When I first started with Supermums, my project manager said to me ‘this is something you can do, and something you are completely capable of’. So right from the get go, the encouragement was there when I needed it the most; at a time when I was unsure about whether I could do it, and whether I’d made the right decision in changing my career.

This brings me onto the community that comes with doing the Supermums programme. Anyone can sell a training course, that’s easy. Here’s a training course, buy it. Supermums is far more than that. They bring you in to the community, make you part of it, give you links with people so you have that constant support. So that anytime you feel alone, you know there’s a bunch of people you can go to and say ‘can I have some help please’.’

Simon would recommend a career in Salesforce because…

‘I now work at a charity called Education and Employers and I’m the Salesforce Manager there. It’s a fantastic role and I really enjoy it. I’m enthusiastic about turning up every morning, knowing the role is really varied and there is always something I enjoy doing.

What I enjoy the most about the role is speaking to my colleagues and finding out what their pain points are and working out solutions with them. So often you find that end users don’t understand the power of the platform and the variety of things that you can do, and so they can be quite amazed when you show them. Simply doing some little updates to pages, fields, emails, etc, can transform their day-to-day, and for me that’s really rewarding.

It’s been 4 1/2 years now and I can really see the progression within my role. I have taken the Supermums Admin course, the Platform App Builder course, and now I’m taking the Supermums Business Analyst course which is a 2 year course, which is really helping me in my role at the moment.’

Simon’s new career in Salesforce has given him…

‘More flexibility. I have more control over my life, in particular I am more financially in control of my life now. I also have more flexibility with my work location. I enjoy working from different places, I’ve got very supportive employer who allows me to work from cafes, I’ve worked from beaches before, I’ve worked from different countries. All this is possible because I’ve got the computer and I can do the work from anywhere.’
