Lloyds made the move from a biology degree into a Salesforce career after relocating to the UK for his master’s and searching for a clear career path in tech.

With an undergraduate degree in biology and a postgraduate degree in business analysis, Lloyds had never worked in tech and had never heard of Salesforce. Today, he is a Salesforce Data Analyst at Plymouth Marjon University, helping the university implement Salesforce Education Cloud, in a team that includes three Supermums alumni.

New Role: Salesforce Data Analyst, Plymouth Marjon University

“I never knew that I was gonna end up in a Salesforce setting, and it was a journey that Supermums really championed for me.”

Lloyds decided to make a career change into Salesforce because…

“When I began my Salesforce journey, late 2024, I had moved to the UK for my postgraduate degree. At the time, I hadn’t found my footing here in the UK. I was trying to discover myself, discover a career pathway for me. I was doing my master’s degree in business analysis and there was a lot of confusion around what to do.

I decided to start attending some events. At one event at Liverpool Street, I met this amazing individual who told me there was another event happening at Salesforce Tower. At the time, I hadn’t heard the word Salesforce. It was a Black in Tech event, and to be honest, I was really blown away. They talked about their stories, how they started with Salesforce, and I was like, ‘What is Salesforce?’ The people were happy. They really enjoyed what they were doing, and I wanted to be part of that community, that story.”

Lloyds started going to community events, including the London Admin User Group, signed up to Trailhead and joined a five-week volunteer Salesforce project with Africa Ohana. He was honest that he started with “complete zero knowledge”, but he asked lots of questions and kept going.

Lloyds decided to upskill with Supermums because…

“I discovered Supermums at TDX London in 2025. I saw this group of people outside, talking, laughing and taking selfies. I was alone, I didn’t know who to talk to, and I wanted to know who these people were. I remember seeing Heather in the golden hoodie. I didn’t know what the golden hoodie was, but I was just inspired.

Then I started going through people’s LinkedIn profiles and I saw something they all had in common, which was Supermums training on their profile. I did some research and found out Supermums was a training provider for Salesforce, and that the training comes with work experience for a nonprofit or a charity. I was like, ‘This is gonna be a good moment for me.'”

After a call with Lyn from the Supermums team, Lloyds joined the Supermums Salesforce Admin Course, which combines structured training, a dedicated mentor, discounted certification vouchers and real work experience.

Lloyds got more than just training because…

“My trainer was Leanne, who was super amazing. And I was assigned this wonderful mentor, Leslie Martinez. I’ll never forget her. Even now that I’ve got my job, I have meetings with her every month to check in.

The good thing about the Supermums training was the assignment itself. It was more like a project to me because I was implementing all the solutions and the configurations, and my mentor was there checking and going through everything. She was like a project manager, making sure I was meeting the requirements in the requirements document. Supermums also provided me with two discounted certification vouchers, which really helped me.”

Working through a real requirements document with a mentor acting as project manager gave Lloyds hands-on Salesforce experience to talk about in interviews, not just theory.

Lloyds was able to launch his new career successfully because…

“When I got into my internship at a nonprofit, I wasn’t even there a week when I received a call from the recruitment team at Supermums that there was a role available for me if I was interested. I said, ‘Yes, I’m interested, but I would need to relocate to Plymouth.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, no worries. I’m down for it. It’s time to leave my parents’ house here in London and start an independent life on my own.’ I did the interview, a three-stage interview, and I got the job.”

Supermums’ Recruitment support matched Lloyds with the role at Plymouth Marjon University while he was still on his work experience placement.

Lloyds has now successfully achieved a Salesforce career that offers him…

“I’ve moved to Plymouth and I’m enjoying the job. I’ve got a team of wonderful people. My manager is amazing.”

“We are a team of three Supermums alumni, alongside other professionals, and it’s wonderful because I’m getting exposed to new technology, like Gearset for Salesforce deployment and document generation tools. I’m learning so much.”

“The salary is good, and I’m really thankful to Supermums for their support.”

His new role offers:

  • A permanent role in higher education, working on a live Salesforce Education Cloud implementation
  • A supportive team, including fellow Supermums alumni
  • Hands-on experience with new tools across the Salesforce ecosystem
  • Ongoing mentoring from his Supermums mentor

Final Thoughts on moving from a biology degree into a Salesforce career

“It’s been an exciting project for me because I never knew that I was gonna end up in a Salesforce setting, and it was a journey that Supermums really championed for me.”

Lloyds’ story shows that you don’t need a tech background to build a Salesforce career. Curiosity, community and the confidence to ask questions got him started, and structured Salesforce Admin training, a mentor and real work experience turned that interest into a well-paid role.
