Day in the life: Silvia, from Fundraising Manager to Systems Manager

Silvia is a mum of three and had worked in an Art Gallery for over 15 years as a Fundraising & Events Manager. While she loved her job and the flexibility, the hours become unsuitable with her new Mum lifestyle and commitments. With the help of Supermums, Silvia retrained and since graduating has worked on two projects as a Consultant for a Health & Safety company and is now a Systems Manager for Advice UK based in London. 

Silvia recently participated in a short film about Supermums working with the BBC and Salesforce and we can’t wait to share it with you soon.

Silvia’s Story

“When I started my transition a year ago I would never have dreamt that in such a short time I would have 2 Salesforce certifications and the job I have now. I am able to support my family while also look after my children in a perfect balance.”


What were you doing before transitioning to a Salesforce career / starting a Supermums course?

About a year ago, after the birth of my third child, I felt the need to change my career. I have worked in fundraising in the creative industry for 15 years. My job was flexible but it required that I often had to work in the evening until it was not compatible with my mother’s life. I needed to skill up if I wanted to change careers, become more tech savvy and keep up with the changing times. Salesforce was the perfect match. I knew Salesforce had a fundraising solution so i felt that i could combine my knowledge with product solutions.


How was the process of making that change / career pivot? Where there skills and knowledge that transferred particularly well? If you feel you can, include anything you found challenging and how you overcame it.

I decided to enroll in the course to become a Salesforce Administrator offered by Supermums. For me it was an uphill road, because I had no experience in computer science, artificial intelligence or technology. But, with the support of Supermums I managed to complete the course, pass the Salesforce administrator exam on the first try and now I work as a Salesforce Consultant. It’s been great to work on a couple of contracts now to see how Salesforce delivers solutions for different clients both in the commercial and non-profit sector working alongside other team members. 


Can you share a little about your experience of the course(s)? What was the best thing about it and what was the most challenging?

In my opinion, the Supermums Admin course is very well structured with weekly deadlines, the support of a tutor, an internship at the end of the course that gives you the opportunity to put into practice what you have learned and also to build your new CV.

I also really like the world of Salesforce, it’s a dynamic environment, I’ve met many new people and every time I needed something, I was able to find someone or a source online to help me.


Where do you work now? 

I work as a Systems Consultant for Advice UK in London which is my dream job, working alongside other Supermum Alumni who is the system administrator.
