Where do you work and what does the business do?
I am currently working on a remote contract role for a Not for profit business called Transparency International who are based in Berlin, Germany. They are a non-profit, non-governmental Organisation whose main purpose is to combat global corruption.
What is your job title?
Can you work flexibility in your existing role?
My role as Salesforce Consultant is a fully remote role where I work from home (in the UK) daily, the flexibility is fantastic as I work the hours which suit me.
What do you do in a typical day?
A typical day in my role as a Salesforce Consultant is planning my day ahead, I make a to do list every day once prioritised in order of importance I begin the tasks for the day. My day is often filled with at least a few meetings which then leads to more work.
I currently work on two totally different Salesforce projects which are very different and unique in nature so it’s almost learning on the job myself as well as offering support to my peers where needed. Constant check in with my peers happens daily as they look to me for any salesforce support or issues. My day ends by making sure that all tasks are complete and my allocated work for each project is on schedule.
What is the most challenging thing about your role?
The most challenging part of my role is sometimes not agreeing with suggestions about what a business think they need, and trying to convince people is sometimes a huge challenge.
What is the best thing about your job?
I would say the best thing about by job is working with stakeholders and understanding their current business processes and issues and then coming up with the best fit solutions to help meet their business goals while still getting a return on investment (ROI).
How did you get into Salesforce / find out about the Supermums courses?
I came across Supermums whilst going through LinkedIn, it just popped up on my feed and at the time I was already thinking of doing a course in relation to Salesforce to further cement my understanding.
What were you doing before transitioning to a Salesforce career / starting a Supermums course?
I was living in Dubai with my husband and 2 daughters and worked for an oil and gas company where I was initially introduced to working with Salesforce. My passion grew from there, I was aware how much the system was capable of and really wanted to expand my knowledge and get an in depth understanding of the key elements and benefits of the system.
How was the process of making that change / career pivot? Where there skills and knowledge that transferred particularly well? If you feel you can, include anything you found challenging and how you overcame it.
My degree and work background to date has always been Information Systems related, so I guess it wasn’t a career change as such for me, it was more focusing in on a particular information system and fully understanding what it can do and how it can best benefit businesses.
Can you share a little about your experience of the course(s)? What was the best thing about it and what was the most challenging?
The hands-on experience and knowledge from the trainers were amazing, as was the set homework tasks as this gave me the push needed to ensure homework was completed before the next week’s session.
The most challenging thing about the course for me personally was the time element, as working full time it often means that I was unable to attend sessions and found that sometimes completing work could be a struggle.
What was it like having a mentor? How did you work / meet together?
Whilst doing the Admin course I was assigned a great mentor with an enormous amount of experience, we would do a video meetings once weekly or more frequently if I needed to complete something which I was stuck on. It really was great working this way as I also had the option to email and get a response fairly quickly.
Please share a little about the work experience element of the course. What did you do? What was good about it? Was it useful?
Coming to the end of my Admin Course I was assigned to a project that was already underway, I was taken on board as part of the project Implementation team where I got hands on experience of implementing and doing customisations for the client. I also had a separate task of doing customisations for the Stripe connector which is a 3rd part app which I had no exposure to before this project.
Overall, I found this very useful and felt it was a crucial part of the Admin course which further helped cement my learning.
What do you think is great about the Supermums programme and why do you think people should do it?
The whole supermums programme is absolutely amazing, Heather and the rest of the team have been absolutely amazing and all come with years of experience which they are happy to share with others.
What are your top tips for studying for Salesforce certifications?
Focus on Force is amazing, this gives you online practice exams which give you great exam practice as well as further in-depth knowledge.
What has been the biggest challenge in your Salesforce career so far?
In my current role, the time element is a big challenge as there just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to work on these two separate projects.
What is your favourite thing about Salesforce?
My favourite thing about Salesforce is the endless learning and the sense of achievement when you finally crack something you have been working on.
Anything else about your experience that you think it is important / useful to share:
Self-development is absolutely crucial at any point in your life – Invest in yourself.
