Lorena had never heard of Salesforce before the pandemic. As a Pilates instructor, the global lockdowns abruptly brought her career to a halt. Feeling stuck and unsure of her next steps, it was her daughter who introduced her to Trailhead. What started as a way to pass time quickly turned into a passion that led Lorena to retrain and eventually launch a new career in tech. With no business or tech background, she took a leap into the unknown – and hasn’t looked back since.

Lorena decided to upskill and launch her Salesforce career because…

“I didn’t know Salesforce existed at all because my background has never been business or anything like that. During the pandemic, my daughter told me, ‘Oh, so you don’t like having free time now that you can’t work as a Pilates instructor because everything is closed? Why don’t you try Trailhead for a bit? That way, you can learn what Salesforce is and what the 21st century might bring to your life.’ I started doing modules just to pass the time. I didn’t really understand what I was doing at first—I would pass the badges without knowing exactly how it worked– but then I got a bit hooked. I wanted to know more and eventually said, ‘I’m going to try to pass my certification and find a job.’”

Lorena decided to upskill in the Salesforce Admin Course with Supermums because…

“Someone told me I needed actual work experience and said Supermums was the best thing in the UK at the moment. I contacted them and said I had passed my certification, but I didn’t have a clue about almost anything! I needed to learn everything from scratch. The course helped me understand sales, service, and all the basics I had missed. I also had a great mentor – someone who worked at Salesforce – who explained everything to me, from forecasting to processes. It was an amazing support.”

Lorena was able to launch her new Salesforce career successfully because…

“After I finished the course and my internship with Supermums, I landed my first job as a Junior Salesforce Consultant. I learned a lot about how to implement Salesforce across different industries. I had to speak to stakeholders, ask the right questions, and understand what they needed. The consultancy skills course with Heather helped me even more – I started to really understand how to map processes and approach implementation in a structured way.”

Lorena has now successfully achieved a Salesforce career that offers her…

“I worked in the solar sector as a Salesforce Administrator for a German company. The whole CRM was in German, so I used Google Translate to understand it! Even though I don’t speak German, I could still build fields, objects, and flows, and communicate with stakeholders. It was a great experience. Everything was remote, which worked really well for me living in Dorset. I’d join daily meetings, use Jira and Slack, and collaborate with a team that included developers and architects.”

Where has Lorena’s Salesforce career taken her since she started?

“The job taught me a lot about flows. The Salesforce org had been built in 2016, so the technical debt was huge. Flows were failing, some were half-coded, and we had to refactor everything. I also handled day-to-day user issues, created dashboards and reports, and responded to new requirements. It was a fantastic experience. Even though the company eventually moved away from Salesforce, I learned so much and I’m now looking for my next opportunity.”

Final thoughts

“Supermums has been a great help. It’s a wonderful community – you’re learning, having fun, and there are good people around you to help. There’s always someone to support you, whether it’s your mentor, colleagues, or even just someone in the community. It gave me the structure and confidence to go from Pilates to tech, and I absolutely recommend it.”
