Kate, mum of 1 from the UK, fell into Education after she became a mum and realised how expensive childcare was, and that she needed a flexible role around her little one. Fast forward 8 years and now she is an Associate Sales Consultant at Ignyto working flexibly around her now 10 year old son, doing a role that inspires her everyday.

Kate decided to join the Supermums Admin course because…

Kate, mum of 1 from the UK, fell into Education after she became a mum and realised just how expensive childcare was, and that she needed a flexible role around her little one, so she skilled up as a Child Minder while he was little, and then when he went to nursery, Kate ran the village pre-school.

“I loved doing it but it got to the point where i had shifted careers to fit around childcare but I still didn’t know what I actually wanted to do.  Now he is 10, it gave me the opportunity to finally do something for myself for a change, and try something different.”

” I knew that I wanted something with career progression but didnt want a management role as i had done this for so long and people management just wasn’t where i wanted to go. I stumbled across Salesforce and liked that you could, learn the basics, keep learning more, become a specialist by finding your niche.”

“My husband is a Superdad and did the Salesforce Admin course with Supermums in 2018. My best friend also studied with Supermums and really excelled in her new flexible career. Post covid became the time to reflect and commit to something new.”

Kate was able to launch her career in Salesforce because…

“I had no prior experience of Salesforce. I didn’t understand what it was, or how it worked and my husband suggested learning it on Trailhead. Trailhead is amazing but it tried to self learn on-line but it just didn’t sink in. I was juggling full time work, parenting and trying to teach myself something completely new and i really didn’t understand it. I had never been an end user of Salesforce either so I had no experience of it or what it did. For me, the self learning style just didn’t work!”

“Supermums was just what i needed. Having weekly sessions, homework tasks, a supportive cohort with people like me, a mentor etc, was all so helpful. Also, by actually paying for a course and making the investment in myself, it made me accountable and i had to make it a success and get certified!”

“It was hard juggling a full time job and studying but i made myself a timetable to fit the classes & additional tasks around work. I didn’t join any classes live as i was working during the day, but as everything is virtual, i watched them all back on recordings. I used to get home from work, have family time, put my son to bed then cracked on with learning.”

“I loved all the course content, guest speakers, topics, tasks etc and tried to soak as much up, and also commit to working and getting the studying done at the weekend and evenings.”

Kate new Salesforce career and day-to-day role entails…

“I was so nervous looking for a new role in a new career. My husband kept telling me to just apply for jobs but i was scared so i just updated my LinkedIn profile to say that i was looking for work. My old employer saw that i was looking, and had previously had a Supermum on work experience, and my role came from there.”

“Where i work now is a Salesforce Consultancy, i applied directly for this role. They were expanding and recruiting a new ream which was the ideal next step. My first role was small and gave me the confidence to grow and learn and go at my won pace. This role was at a bigger company with more roles within a consultancy and I wanted that next step up.”

“I work in a managed service squad, working on a mix of projects, managing 10 – 15 projects at a time. I work on new implementations through to managed services, covering things such as building fields, automations, Pardot (just done my cert), engagement journeys, segmentation, sales service etc. Working for a Consultancy means that we work with all the Salesforce Clouds so it’s a great mix in my role every day”

“My role is full time and fully remote. We have core hours between 10am – 3pm that everyone has to work but that means its flexible around school times, or if there is something happening like its Sports Day next week, i’ll just make up the time off later that day or week. My boss is really great with this and understanding.”

“I am happy where i am. Education took a lot out of me – managing children, teams, peoepl, OFSTED reports etc. My work life balance right now is in a really good place. I’m not overwhelmed. I feel happy about going to work and there’s no Sunday night dread. I think i might learn Education Cloud though as fits with my background.”

“Being trusted as an adult that works fully remotely, that i will do my hours, get the job done all while looking after my mental health by taking a longer lunch / break etc, makes me a better employee.”
