How do you progress from a Salesforce Administrator to a Salesforce Marketing Cloud Consultant? 

When you start as a Salesforce Administrator it’s great to have a progression plan with your employer that outlines your learning plan with roles and responsibilities that sets out how a promotion and salary increase can take place. As a Salesforce professional, you should always be learning, acquiring new skills, and developing your potential. This week we look at how a Salesforce Administrator can progress as a Marketing Cloud Consultant if they have a desire to develop their marketing skills and competencies. A Salesforce Marketing Cloud Specialist or Consultant can lead on connecting Salesforce to Marketing Cloud to maximise customer intelligence and communications.

Salesforce Administrator

Role: Gathering and Implementing Requirements and Supporting End Users  
Salary: £30k – £40k / USD $87k – $107k
Responsibilities: At this stage you are actively showing you can gather and manage pro-active and reactive Salesforce administrative tasks to keep your users happy and to keep the system compliant, secure, and in good working order.

  • CRM requirements are being documented, managed, and completed to meet user requirements. 
  • Managing the Centre of Excellence for SMT and allocated admin responsibilities amongst delegated admins.
  • Tracking User Adoption and Data Input by Users across a System 
  • Manages a systematic way of logging, prioritizing, and managing cases/requirement log
  • Receiving 4/5 star feedback from users on Salesforce Use Cases and Onboarding.
  • Advising clients on the Four Roles of an Awesome Admin tasks to meet system, data, and security requirements.
  • Management and implementation of integrated apps and systems that support team members.

Learning Pathway

Progression to Marketing Cloud Administrator 

Role: Ability to implement marketing cloud and manage data and communications between Salesforce and Marketing Cloud
Salary: £45k – £60k / USD $65k – $90k
Responsibilities: At this stage, you will start to build up your technical skills and knowledge in the Marketing Cloud Suite of products. It is much more than just email, it’s about advancing communication and relationships with your customers, to fully extend the role of a CRM. The two platforms – Salesforce and Marketing Cloud create the perfect storm to optimise customer service and sales opportunities for a business. The product range consists of: 

  • Customer Data Platform 
  • Personalization 
  • Engagement 
  • Advertising 
  • Account Engagement 
  • Intelligence 
  • Loyalty Management

Progression to Marketing Cloud Consultant 

Role: Leading the Salesforce Project with a Client from start to finish.
Salary: £60 – £75k / USD $85k – $116k 
Responsibilities: At this stage, you can confidently lead a Marketing Cloud project from A to Z with positive results and outcomes for the client.

  • Conduct Business Analysis with c-suite to frontline staff to aid decision-making and technology priorities for the business with senior management. 
  • Inform the CRM and Marketing Cloud strategy and ROI deliverables with the client.
  • Execute agile project management to help the client deliver on an organisational-wide CRM Strategy and Roadmap where Business Performance is being maximised through system improvements – tangible increase in income, profit, and reduced expenses.
  • Managing a wider Tech Team – Interns, Junior Admins, Business Analysts, Developers etc.
