3 Reasons why we need to level up the playing field for women in Salesforce!

If the Salesforce eco-system is to attract more women then collectively we need to demonstrate our commitment to attracting, retaining and progressing more women.

This years International Women’s Day theme is all about #BreakingTheBias. Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.

At Supermums we want to better quantify, understand and demonstrate the career opportunities for women in the Salesforce eco-system to either tell a story, educate or improve working conditions for women. We believe this can start with these 3 reasons why we need to level up the playing field:

1. The Digital Skills Gap is the #1 problem that is hampering the growth of the technology sector right now and this subsequently impacts the growth of businesses who keen to adopt new technology but are subject to long waiting times. We need to attract new talent.

2. The number of women in the tech sector is massively disproportionate to the number of men with an indication that the needle hasn’t changed much over the last 10 years, so how do we move this dial. This challenge is either due to lack of knowledge and information about the careers available or the ability to retain women post maternity leave if working conditions aren’t supportive.

3. A more diverse workforce at all levels delivers better outcomes for your business as the team will contribute different perspectives that reflect a wider customer and employee base meaning you can build a stronger strategy and rapport. A business needs to offer benefits and packages that are attractive to women.

Supermums is on a mission to attract and empower more mums into the Salesforce sector. What can you do to help?

What are the barriers that exist for mothers?

Mothers often don’t believe they can access well-paid flexible careers and many don’t know about the roles available in the tech sector. If they work flexibly then they think they should be a lower wage and in a role with less responsibility. We need to demonstrate that a Salesforce career can challenge their assumptions.

Employers don’t always understand and appreciate the value that new mature female talent can bring to their workplace. Flexibility can mean different things to different people, we shouldn’t always assume it mean’s part-time work but yet evidence claims productivity can be just as high in a 4 day week as a 5 day week. Employers should embrace flexible working policies now more than ever to attract and retain talent and create a more gender balanced technology workforce.

What actions can you take NOW to help support our #LevellingUpWomen campaign in the Salesforce ecosystem?

1. Help us collect data by completing our survey

We want to hear from female employees anonymously about their career experience

We want to hear from employers about how they currently empower women in their careers

The survey will be an educational experience as it will give you insight into all of the things that could be offered to women to create a useful benchmark.

The survey is open between the 28th Feb and 18th March. All completed responses will be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 Amazon voucher.
