About the Role

 

Our client, a leading UK-based organisation in the financial services sector, is seeking an experienced and versatile Principal Salesforce Engineer to lead the technical direction of Salesforce programs across its Commercial domain.

 

This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for owning the Salesforce technical reference architecture and solution designs. The successful candidate will ensure that all implementations adhere to engineering, performance, and security best practices. They will also mentor engineering teams, define architectural standards, and collaborate with product, delivery, and security stakeholders to drive key business outcomes.

The organisation is investing heavily in Salesforce and related cloud technologies as part of its ongoing modernisation strategy.

 

The Principal Salesforce Engineer will work within a cross-functional team of Salesforce Engineers, Architects, Product Managers, and Technical Leaders, collaborating closely with enterprise architecture and engineering colleagues across multiple business units.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the technical strategy and architecture for Salesforce programs across the Commercial domain.
  • Design and implement secure, scalable, and high-performing Salesforce solutions within an agile environment.
  • Establish and maintain architectural patterns, data models, and integration frameworks.
  • Conduct design and architecture reviews, ensuring consistency with governance and best practices.
  • Oversee integration design with external systems and middleware (e.g., Mulesoft).
  • Lead platform performance optimization, scalability, and capacity planning.
  • Mentor and guide Salesforce engineers and architects, promoting knowledge sharing and engineering excellence.
  • Evaluate new Salesforce features and tools, influencing technology strategy and platform roadmaps.
  • Provide technical leadership during critical incidents, driving resolution and root-cause analysis.

 

Candidate Requirements

  • Extensive experience in Salesforce engineering with proven technical leadership in large-scale environments.
  • Deep expertise across multiple Salesforce Clouds, including Financial Services, Sales, Service, Experience, and Marketing Cloud.
  • Strong track record in technical governance, architectural design, and secure, scalable solution delivery.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to bridge technical and business audiences.
  • Mastery of Salesforce development technologies: Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Aura, Flows, SOQL/SOSL, and governor limits.
  • Solid understanding of integration patterns, APIs (REST/SOAP, Bulk API), and middleware platforms (e.g., Mulesoft).
  • Knowledge of Salesforce security architecture, including OAuth, SSO, and field-level security.
  • Experience with enterprise integrations across CRM, Marketing, or HR systems.
  • Salesforce Architect certifications (or progress toward CTA) are highly desirable.
