In this blog series we focus on helping you to find a Salesforce job or project.

Finding a Salesforce job or project is rarely just about having the right certification.

Your technical skills matter, but securing consistent work also depends on whether people know who you are, understand the value you offer and trust you enough to hire or recommend you.

I learned this first-hand when I began my own Salesforce journey.

I started by learning Salesforce, building my confidence and looking for opportunities to apply my skills. From there, I launched my freelance career, found my first clients and gradually built a Salesforce consultancy and recruitment firm that has now worked with more than 700 businesses.

That growth did not happen overnight. It came from following a repeatable approach to raising my profile, building relationships, demonstrating credibility and clearly communicating how I could help.

The Four-Part Formula – How to find a Salesforce Job

Over four weeks, I am sharing the formula I have followed to secure new Salesforce work:

  1. How to Raise Your Profile
  2. How to Build Your Network
  3. How to Build Your Reputation
  4. How to Sell Yourself

This third article focuses on the next step of building your reputation to boost referrals.

Build Your Reputation: How to Become Known, Trusted and Recommended

You’ve built your skills. You’ve started building your network. Now there’s another important part of growing your career or business: building your reputation.

But what actually is reputation — and how do you measure it?

For me, reputation comes down to trust and recognition. Do people know who you are? Do they trust you to do a brilliant job? And, crucially, are they willing to recommend you to somebody else or come back and work with you again?

Some of the measures I look at in my own businesses are referrals, repeat business, recommendations, followers, subscribers and recognition within the Salesforce ecosystem.

As I’ve grown my Salesforce consultancy, training and recruitment businesses, we’ve achieved over a 60% referral and repeat business rate. I’ve built a personal LinkedIn following of more than 36,000 people, grown an email subscriber community, and I was incredibly proud to receive a Salesforce Golden Hoodie for the work I’ve done through Supermums.

What’s fascinating is what happens afterwards.

At events and at least once a week in meetings, somebody will say to me:

“I remember you getting your Golden Hoodie on stage.”

That moment made me memorable.

But reputation isn’t built through one big moment. It’s built through hundreds of smaller moments that happen consistently over time.

I’ve been running my own businesses since 2006, and there are three strategies that I’ve consistently used to build my reputation.

Strategy 1: Maintain Your Presence

You can’t build a reputation if people forget you exist.

Throughout my career, I’ve made a conscious effort to stay visible.

I’ve built networks. I’ve run regular events. I’ve sent weekly newsletters. I post daily on LinkedIn. I’m continually putting useful content, ideas and opportunities into people’s awareness.

Why?

Because being visible once isn’t enough.

With social media algorithms, only a fraction of your audience might see an individual post. Someone might not read your newsletter this week, but they’ll still see your name appearing in their inbox. They might not attend your event, but they’ll have seen the invitation. They might scroll past your LinkedIn post today, but see another one tomorrow.

Over time, you become familiar.

And familiarity matters when an opportunity arises.

When somebody suddenly needs a Salesforce consultant, is looking to recruit somebody, wants some training, or knows somebody looking for a new career, who comes to mind?

You want to be one of those people.

This doesn’t mean constantly selling yourself. The best way to maintain your presence is to consistently provide value. Share what you know. Bring people together. Help people. Teach something useful. Celebrate other people’s successes.

You’re gradually building a place in people’s subconscious so when they need somebody with your expertise, they remember you.

Build your presence locally

If you want to grow your professional profile and generate opportunities, one thing you can do with us is host a local Supermums Business Network.

Strategy 2: Do a Brilliant Job

Visibility might get you noticed.

Doing a brilliant job gets you recommended.

When I started my consulting career, I quickly identified the gaps in my knowledge and invested more than £11,000 in training.

At the time, I was earning £500-a-day consulting rates. I looked at that investment commercially: it would take just 22 consulting days to earn back the £11,000.

For me, it was worth the investment because I wanted the skills, confidence, templates and methodology to deliver properly for my clients.

I invested in:

  • Salesforce training
  • Business analysis
  • Change management
  • Agile project management

But I didn’t stop at gaining qualifications. I created my own methodologies, processes, systems and templates that gave me a framework for how I worked with clients.

I didn’t want to be a cowboy consultant turning up without a proper formula. I wanted to show up looking professional, knowing what questions to ask, what process to follow and how to guide a client successfully through a project.

That investment paid me back in more than day rates. It built my confidence, client results, reputation and referrals.

Successful projects meant happy clients. Happy clients were willing to recommend me. Recommendations led to more work.

That’s the reputation flywheel you want to create:

Skills → Great Work → Results → Trust → Recommendations → Opportunities

Today, I now teach these methodologies through our Supermums Consultancy Skills Course, and i’ve helped over 400 aspiring and existing consultants professionalise how they work and build the skills, templates, tools and methodologies they need to deliver confidently with clients. Thishas also built my reputation in the global community.

Strategy 3: Ask for Recommendations — and Use Them!

If somebody thinks you’re brilliant, don’t leave that feedback sitting in their inbox.

Ask them to say it publicly.

Depending on your career or business, that could mean asking for recommendations and reviews on:

  • LinkedIn
  • Trustpilot
  • Google
  • Salesforce AppExchange
  • Your own website or another relevant industry platform

If you’re building your career, ask your clients, managers, trainers, mentors and colleagues for recommendations.

Then use them.

Add recommendations to your LinkedIn profile. Include strong testimonials on your CV. Put them on your website. Add them to your portfolio. Share them on social media.

Don’t hide your success.

One of the most powerful things you can create is a proper case study.

Rather than simply saying “I worked on a Salesforce implementation”, demonstrate:

The Problem → The Solution → The Outcome

What challenge did the organisation have? What did you do? What skills did you use? What changed as a result?

That’s evidence of what you can deliver.

I’m incredibly proud of the Excellent rating Supermums has achieved on Trustpilot. It’s something our whole team can feel proud of because it reflects the experience people have had with us.

And importantly, those reviews don’t just make us feel good — they help future customers decide whether they can trust us.

Build your reputation before you’ve even landed your first Salesforce job

This is particularly important when you’re launching a new career.

One of the biggest challenges career changers face is:

“How do I prove I can do the job when nobody has employed me to do it yet?”

That’s why our Supermums Salesforce Admin trainees are encouraged to build references through their trainer, mentor and work experience host.

It means that when they launch their Salesforce career, they can potentially have three people who can validate their skills, attitude and work.

You’re no longer simply telling an employer you’re capable, other people are saying it for you and that’s reputation.

Your Reputation Is What Other People Say About You

You can tell people you’re brilliant all day long.

It’s far more powerful when somebody else says it for you.

Your reputation isn’t something you create overnight. It’s the cumulative result of how consistently you show up, the value you provide, the quality of your work and the experience people have when they work with you.

So think about your own reputation today.

Are you visible?

Are you doing work that people want to recommend?

Are you capturing and sharing the evidence that proves what you’re capable of?

Don’t wait until you need a job, a client or an opportunity to start thinking about your reputation.

Build it before you need it.
