How did you get into Salesforce / find out about the Supermums courses?

I was looking for a career that was cross between by experience as a project manager and Software Developer and came across an ad for a Salesforce Implementation job and the more I learned about learn about Salesforce the more I discovered that it really is the perfect sweet spot I was looking for. The technical part came pretty easy but I know there was a lot more I learn and that lead me to sign up for a webinar where Heather Black was speaking about Consultancy Skills that every Admin should know. Heather was so inspiring that I thought I want to learn more from her, and then at the end talk, Heather told us about the Supermum’s Consultancy training course. I immediately went to website and a few days later I joined the course.

What were you doing before transitioning to a Salesforce career / starting a Supermums course?

I was a Software Developer and before that a Project Manager.

How was the process of making that change / career pivot?

I have to say that I am privileged that I have affinity for technology, so the process was not too hard. What was challenging though was I didn’t think I knew enough to suggest solutions when working with a peer on my first client project. Then I took a step back and realized that I actually knew more than I gave myself credit for. I realized my transferable skills like problem-solving, and requirements gathering really gave me a unique prospective and I never looked back.

Can you share a little about your experience of the course(s)?

The Consultancy course has really been life-changing. I don’t want to sound dramatic, but I had a gut feeling that what was happening didn’t seem like the right way to do things, and it was very lonely position to be in. So when I started the course it was quickly confirmed that I was right and more importantly I learned why it was wrong. And, from the moment I signed up, I gained a community of likeminded people who want to lift you up. The most challenging thing has been keeping on task, but it’s like anything else in life, you get out what you put in.

What do you think is great about the Supermums programme and why do you think people should do it?

First of all, the greatest thing about the program is Heather Black; she is so open to guiding us and generously shares her knowledge and insight. Secondly, the community alone is worth the price of the course.

Where do you work now and what do you do?

I’m an Implementation Specialist at MK Partners in Los Angeles, CA. They are a Salesforce Consultancy Partner.

Do you work flexibility?

Since the pandemic our company went remote.

What do you do in a typical day?

I work on about 4 to 6 projects at a time, so I usually start my day with my project manager hat on and prioritize what must happen that day. Then I have a video meeting with a client to discuss business processes or have an org review to show the work that has been done. Throughout the day my co-workers reach out to ask for my help, so I shift gears to help them out. I block off time increments to build solutions for my projects. I end the day by sending any updates to my clients if I haven’t spoken with them in last few days.

What is the most challenging thing about your role?

The most challenging thing about my role is keeping my integrity with my clients that go against the company standards.

What is the best thing about your job?

The best thing about by job is working with clients to learn their business processes and pain point and then building a solution that makes their user experience better than they thought was even possible.

What certification do you have and what are you working towards next?

I am a certified Sales Cloud Consultant and a certified Administrator. I am deciding between Service Cloud Consultant and Salesforce CPQ as my next certification.

What are your top tips for studying for Salesforce certifications? (you can be specific to those you have taken if you like)

What has worked for me is taking practice exams on FocusOnForce.com with the option of showing the answers after every question. It gives an explanation of why your answer is right or wrong. Doing that gives me a feel for which topics I need to learn more about. Then I head over to Trailhead to get hands on training for those topics. When I feel better about knowing the topic I start the cycle again until I score in the 80 % range for each section on the exam.

What has been the biggest challenge in your Salesforce career so far?

The biggest challenge so far is holding back from doing developer tasks because I don’t want to go back to writing code eight hours a day.

What is your favourite thing about Salesforce?

I love how much you can automate using low code options like flows and process builders.

Who is your favourite Trailhead Character?

Astro Pride
