Jill decided to upskill and accelerate her Salesforce career because..

I was involved in a Salesforce implementation at a charity I was working for several years ago. I left that charity and didn’t think about Salesforce for a number of years, until I found myself in Germany with two kids wanting to change sector and feeling a bit confused and lost as to what to do with myself.

I was told about the Supermums course and knew that I would feel good about myself if I sign up to something then and there. I’ve never looked back.

I found the work experience quite terrifying initially: I was afraid of touching anything and causing damage. I think that’s why the work experience element of the course is so crucial, to get over those initial fears and to gain confidence doing basic tasks in real organisations and knowing that you can do this in real life.

At the start of the course, I was probably a bit useless, but it’s all just part of the learning and my project manager was very supportive.

I found my job soon after finishing the course. I was nervous as to whether I would be a convincing candidate, but I had my Admin certification and the Supermums course behind me, and together they made me more experienced than many other candidates out there; it gives you a huge advantage.

My entire career prior to the Supermums course was in the non-profit sector and it was important to me to maintain some connection that sector in changing my career. One of the things that I often found difficult working in the non-profit sector was that many smaller organisations simply don’t have the resources or the time to put into managing processes, change management, and reflecting on the systems around the org. It can be hard for people coming from a pure technology background to put themselves in the shoes of the people working in these small, understaffed, under-resourced organisations, so I feel that I bring an understanding of those limitations within the sector to my role. I think that transferable experience has been a huge benefit to me.

I am a Salesforce Consultant for Cloud Consulting Group in Frankfurt. They implement Salesforce for customers in a range of sectors.

I really wanted to get back to work but I didn’t know what to do, and I have to say if I look back a couple of years now, I sometimes can’t believe that I found exactly the role I wanted that fits so well into my current lifestyle. I have flexibility – I work part time, 25 hours a week, but it’s completely up to me how I work my hours. I work 100% remotely from home but have the option to go into the office whenever I want.

I feel very fortunate to have this set up. It’s been fantastic. It’s really helped me come further and help me feel so much more comfortable with my life, knowing that I can manage childcare and yet have a fulfilling work life as well, and I find that extremely satisfying.
