Divya decided to upskill and launch her Salesforce career because..

I was a Science Teacher in the Caribbean for four years, and when I moved to the UK, I continued my career as a teacher. I got pregnant and I really started to think about whether teaching was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.  Although I loved teaching and I really enjoyed it, I felt like I needed something that was more flexible.

My husband worked for Salesforce and he always talked about the great culture that Salesforce has and the flexibility and the support you can get, so I decided to look into it myself and go down that path.

I looked into Trailhead and saw there was so much to learn. I felt like I needed something that was more guided especially since I had no tech background and it was all very overwhelming. When he told me about the Supermums course, I thought it was perfect for me with all the different elements that the course offers.

Divya decided to upskill in Salesforce Admin Course with Supermums because..

During the first three months, you have weekly webinars which were great because you get a structured two hours where you are being taught. You then get the support of a mentor who helps you through the homework and helps you understand any terminology you don’t understand.

The great part of the course is that you then get work experience, so you actually get to use everything that you’ve learnt. I learned new functionality like integrating different apps into Salesforce, and I had conversations with the charity to gather requirements and then I would implement these requirements. It gives you a feeling for a proper Admin role.

The course was really important for me because I had no tech background and initially, I wondered how I was going to understand it all, but it was so well structured and guides you through everything. It was exactly what I needed.

Divya was able to launch her new Salesforce career successfully because….

At the beginning, going into interviews was tough. It was hard to showcase my skills. The interviewers would ask me what previous teams I had led or been a part of, and because I’d never worked for a big organisation, it was a bit difficult to explain and try and get them to understand that some of the things that are required in a big organisation, I did as a teacher. I was in charge of a form; I was in charge of making sure parents were up to date.

One of the things that really did help was the work experience with the Supermums course. I was able to explain to them that I do have some experience; I have worked in a charity, and that really helped me get a role.

Because of lockdown, it took me three months to find a role, but I said I wasn’t going to let that put me down – I’m going try and continue to learn more about Salesforce.  I continued my journey doing more trails and then I ended up doing the App Builder certification as well.

Divya has now successfully achieved a Salesforce career that offers her..

I work as a Salesforce Administrator for Advice UK. I didn’t know I was going to be Salesforce Admin until I started. I was overwhelmed that I had the whole system and I could do anything with it. The great thing about my role is that I wear lots of hats, I do lots of different things and in this way, you learn a lot as you go. I work closely with the Systems Manager who is also a Supermum!

One of the greatest things I wanted to achieve was flexibility. I knew during maternity leave that it was not going to be something I could keep up doing, going into school as well as taking care of a child, so it’s been great. It’s been a great journey, and I’ve really enjoyed every part of it.

I would highly recommend the course for anyone who is looking to get into the technology field but also looking for a more balanced life having a flexible role as well as having time to spend with your family. The Salesforce culture is great and there are always people, communities, mentor that you can reach out to help you.
