How Debra launched her Salesforce Career

A Salesforce career has opened lots of doors for me. With a background in recruitment, Debra retrained in Salesforce in 2017 and hasn't looked back.

Debra decided to upskill and launch her Salesforce career because..

I had come from a sales recruitment background and realised I did not want to work in recruitment anymore. I was coming up to 40 and thought about how many are now working until they are 70 years old. For me, that was the next 30 years, and I didn’t want to do recruitment for that many years.

I came across the Supermums course on LinkedIn and felt that the course looked structured and sounded interesting. I knew about Salesforce, and I knew that CRM systems are good as I had come across these in my line of work. I felt that I had nothing to lose, so I signed up to Supermums.

Debra decided to upskill in Salesforce Admin Course with Supermums because..

What really enticed me the most about joining Supermums Admin Course was that it was a structured programme, and that I was getting work experience. I don’t think there are many other courses out there that are supportive and as structured as this, not to mention the number of opportunities it opens up for you. It’s fantastic!

The work experience was really satisfying, and you have such supportive project managers. When you’re building your project’s Salesforce system, you’re doing it all remotely in your own time. Some of us used to do it in the evenings or during the day when the kids were at school; you had complete flexibility as to when you did the work. It was also great to see the impact that the project was having on our clients, and how I was able to transform their lives.

When you do this course, you are entering a whole new world and it is very nerve wracking. I used to network purposefully with my cohort; we would be asking questions and bouncing off each other. That’s the great thing about the supportive network – you just feel part of a family. It is such a warm feeling.

The program is brilliant. It’s flexible, it’s a part time course, and you can juggle it around your lifestyle. It is six months of hard work, but it’s definitely worth it.

Debra was able to launch her new Salesforce career successfully because….

Two weeks after starting the course, I joined a Salesforce Consultancy as the Head of Customer Success, thanks to the Supermums Team. I worked with them three days a week and did the Supermums course two days a week. There is a huge learning curve when you start a new job. It is great to be able to have a foundation and a structure, to know what you are doing and be able to ask questions.

Coming from a recruitment background, I know too well that you can up-skill yourself in an area and get certification, but if you haven’t got any work experience no one is going to employ you. Employers like to see that you’ve gone and invested in yourself to improve and up-skill yourself. That was the biggest driver for doing the course; I knew that the work experience was going to be invaluable to me.

There is such a big demand and interest in people that are doing the Supermums programme. Technology is changing the market, and people need to be able to invest in themselves and up-skill.  You don’t have to become a Salesforce Admin; there are so many companies that are using Salesforce and often roles will specify having a knowledge of Salesforce, so it can really open a lot of doors for you.

Debra has now successfully achieved a Salesforce career that offers her..

This career change has opened lots of doors for me.

I have been working for Validity, which is a Salesforce ISV partner, and my role with them is a Customer Success Manager covering the EMEA and APAC region.  I am lucky that I work from home two days a week, and from the office for the other three, and the flexibility and remote working works well for me.

The company is exciting and very fast moving. There is a lot of variety in my day-to-day. As Validity have been purchasing more companies, our bundles have been getting bigger and bigger in terms of our offerings to our clients, so part of my role is engaging with the clients. The other part is working with new clients, demonstrating the products that we have.

I enjoy going to Salesforce meetups in the evenings. You become part of the Salesforce family and you learn about new functionalities. After every meetup I have learnt something new, and I’m inspired.

In doing this course, you are investing in yourself, and you are worth it!
