Debbie became a Salesforce Systems Manager to earn more with flexibility

Debbie decided to upskill and launch her Salesforce career because..

  • Course: Salesforce Admin Course
  • Region: EMEA
  • Sector: Charitable Organisations

I was working as a part-time Fundraiser for a small charity in Gloucester as I wanted to reduce my hours when I had my daughter in 2011 so I could spend time with her. Before that I was a Support Manager for charities. with over 16 years’ experience in the sector.

When my daughter started school, I decided I wanted to do something a little different, using my previous skills and experience. I needed a fresh challenge that would pay more with flexibility.

Part of my motivation for doing the Supermums course was the idea of learning how to use the Salesforce package and then being able to help more charities by implementing Salesforce and helping them: using my technical skills alongside my fundraising skills.

Debbie decided to upskill in Salesforce Admin course with Supermums because..

The course gives you a great grounding in the Salesforce software, as well as the skills needed to implement and manage systems.  Knowing myself, I very much learn by doing; I find that sinks in so much better, so the fact that the training also included a chance for work experience on a live project, as well as links with an organisation that will help me find flexible work after, made for a very attractive package.

Studying with mentors who have vast experience of Salesforce helped give confidence in learning. It’s good for the ego, knowing that what you’re doing does make a difference and does help somebody.

The support of the team in both the webinars and the practical project are invaluable. There is great encouragement to stick with the programme and not give up. I found it a lot easier having those external forces keeping me on track, because if I’d been doing that myself, life would have had too many excuses for me not to commit to it.

The Supermums group on Facebook is also great for posting questions and getting lots of advice. There are some great contacts on there as well.

Debbie was able to launch her new Salesforce career successfully because….

Putting learning into practice with work experience helped reinforce the learning, by applying theories in a practical way they make more sense. Learning from what my Project Manager was implementing and why, rather than having to work it out for myself was valuable.

I implemented the system for the charity I work for – something I did not feel confident doing before the training and would not have attempted. This saved our small charity thousands. This practical experience of the system was a great reinforcement of my learning.

Debbie has now successfully achieved a Salesforce career that offers her..

The Supermums Recruitment Team found me my first role at the Coalition for Efficiency, working three days a week with them as a Salesforce Administrator. They’re based in London and I’m in Gloucester but luckily, but I was able to work remotely.

Since upskilling in Salesforce Admin in 2019, Debbie has since completed the Consultancy Skills Course, worked as a Salesforce Consultant and is now a Salesforce Systems Manager for the Downs Syndrome Association working virtually around the needs of her family. She also volunteers her time as a Supermums Mentor supporting new trainees.
